Glenhuntly Track Classic

Hurry, expressions of interest and registrations closing soon.

The Inaugural Glenhuntly Track Classic will be held in association with Glenhuntly Athletic Club on Friday 3 April 2020 at Duncan Mackinnon Reserve, Murrumbeena, Victoria. Event director is former middle distance runner, Wayne Clarke.

This Classic will be one of the last opportunities to see Australia’s elite athletes competing before they depart Australia to prepare for the Summer Olympics in Tokyo. It will be a genuine lead up meet that includes elite athletes racing together with competitors from local specialist schools and athletic clubs in a program that will excite spectators and participants alike. All heats will be graded according to ability and you don't have to be a member of Athletics Victoria to compete.

The vision and future direction of the Glenhuntly Track Classic is to position itself as an annual ‘Diamond League’ style event that not only compliments existing events on the athletics calendar but also welcomes participation and spectators from the local community.

400m, 3000m Steeple and 1500m

The feature races will include an elite men's and women's 1500m with many of Australia's best middle distance runners invited to compete for a total prize pool of $10,000 ($3,000 for first, $1,500 for second and $500 for third). "Melbourne Track Club preparing for Glenhuntly Track Classic"

There's no denying that it has been a crazy week. As you would all be painfully aware, the Corona-virus pandemic has resulted in cancellations and uncertainty for events all around the world. While it is our intention to stage the Glenhuntly Track Classic on Friday April 3rd, it is also possible that we will be asked by local authorities to postpone.

Like everyone else, we are closely monitoring advice from health authorities, government, local council and Athletics Australia. Should we be required to postpone or modify the event, we will let everyone know. In the meantime, we are pushing on as planned and hope to see you all at Duncan Mackinnon Reserve in a few weeks.

GTC Postponement

It is with great regret that we announce the indefinite postponement of the Glenhuntly Track Classic. This decision has not been taken lightly. We have considered the current restrictions on public gatherings as well as the latest advice from Athletics Victoria, Glen Eira Counci, State Government and health authorities. While disappointed, we accept that this is the responsible approach.

We can't lock in a new date just yet but we will continue to monitor advice over the coming days and weeks. Rest assured that we are committed to this event and have already started discussing how we can make it bigger and better. Further announcements will be posted in due course.

Thanks for all your support and we look forward to taking up the challenge again soon. In the meantime, keep running!

Wayne, Andrew and Christine.
